In a classical description of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), motion of a single "species" obeys the Bloch Equation. The well-known solution of the Bloch Equation consists of T1 and T2 relaxation and precession. Bloch simulation is the most accurate way to study the effect of RF pulses, magnetic field gradients and other external influences such as static magnetic field or transmit field non-uniformities on a magnetic spin system. This can be especially useful in MR sequence development by enabling virtual testing of new RF and gradient wave forms. This tutorial gives an introduction to Bloch simulations and features an implementation in the Matlab environment. During this short meeting we discuss selected topics related to Matlab, MR Imaging, data handling, post-processing/parametric mapping, IDEA, or MRI basics. 10-15 minutes are scheduled for the presenter to outline his/her problems/solutions/tools/tutorial on a specific topic followed by an open discussion. Topic suggestions are welcome!
